Advance your career by becoming a Diver Medical Technician (DMT). This advanced life support course is IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association) accredited and will help you better position yourself for both civil diving, offshore air and closed bell diving operations. The DMT full course is 10 days of training and the DMT Renewal course is 5 days in length. The CDI DMT program will push your critical analysis skills as you learn to respond and manage medical emergencies while working under the IMCA medical chain of command.
Upon successful completion of this course the qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate competency in administering advanced first-aid. The DMT course will emphasize practical application and development of effective medical responses to advanced emergencies that could be experienced by diving personnel on deck, underwater, in the chamber or while participating in closed bell diving operations. The DMT program is taught jointly by CDI’s Senior DMT Instructor and a medical specialist who commits not less than 12hrs of instruction to each DMT full program. The advanced life support skills taught are medical assessments, suturing, advanced airways, establishing intravenous Lines (IV), chest decompressions and chest drain protocols, injections, drug administration and catherization procedures.
The qualified DMT is a specialist in dealing with medical emergencies within the hyperbaric environment and is trained to support air diving and closed bell diving operations worldwide. The DMT qualification is valid for a period of 2 years and can be conveniently renewed once every 2 years by participating in a 1-week DMT renewal program.
